Wake up!

The Labour caucus on a Welsh council held meetings in camera on the day before the full council meeting.

Sometimes controversial issues were discussed and the party line laid down.

Generally, however, the meetings discussed trivial issues at great length.

On one such occasion a councillor having to leave early found the caretaker of the building fast asleep in a chair.

"Wake up you scoundrel!" he cried, "you must have been listening at the keyhole."
